UNITED NATIONS, Dec 13 2006 (IPS) – After five years of negotiations, the United Nations General Assembly has finally endorsed an international treaty to protect the rights of people living with disabilities.
The convention, which was unanimously adopted on Wednesday, will be open to the United Nations 192 member states for signing and ratification next year in March, U.N. officials said.
